Yiwu wholesale market sourcing guide illustration: six districts, product comparison and order checks

How do you buy from Yiwu wholesale market?

Yiwu wholesale market usually refers to Yiwu International Trade City, also called Futian Market, in Zhejiang, China. Buyers use its six districts to find products, compare samples and arrange wholesale orders. You can visit, contact suppliers remotely or use sourcing support. Start with a product brief, compare quotations on the same basis, approve specifications and samples, then agree who will receive, check and ship the goods. Each supplier’s stock, minimum order and delivery terms need confirmation.

1. Is Yiwu the right sourcing channel for your order?

Yiwu is useful when your buying decision benefits from seeing related products together: comparing finishes, handling samples, exploring an assortment or finding an existing design. A retailer building a product range and a wholesaler replenishing several lines can use the market differently, but both need a clear specification and an achievable delivery plan.

Choose the route around the work your order requires:

  • Existing products and repeat orders: confirm the exact model, available quantities and whether the same specification can be supplied again.
  • Several styles or categories: use the market for discovery, then record a separate order and receiving reference for each supplier.
  • Simple branding or packaging changes: ask whether the supplier can support the change and whether it creates a separate minimum or setup charge.
  • New tooling, technical development or demanding production requirements: establish the actual manufacturer’s capability. A booth can introduce a source, but production assessment may need a separate factory visit or audit.

An attractive sample does not establish manufacturing capacity, repeat availability or suitability for your destination. If you are still choosing a category, our guide to products to import from China helps you build the shortlist before searching specific booths.

For replenishment, keep your previous specification and approved reference available. Ask the supplier to confirm whether materials, dimensions, components or packing have changed since the last batch. A familiar model name can conceal a revised product. Clearance stock also needs a separate decision: it may suit a one-time assortment, but confirm future availability before building a permanent range around it.

2. What can you buy in Yiwu? Districts 1–6 at a glance

The current Chinagoods market directory lists Districts 1–6. The Global Digital Trade Center opened on October 14, 2025, adding a newer market area alongside digital trade services. Guides showing only five districts can leave out this part of your search.

Product starting points, checked against official market directories in October 2026

Market areaSelected product categoriesUseful buying check

District 5Imported goods, bedding, fabrics, wedding goods, hair products, pet supplies and auto accessoriesMatch the precise category and application before choosing a floor or booth.
District 6Fashion jewelry, creative toys, fabrics, beauty, baby products, home and travel goods, and smart equipmentCheck the current directory and the requirements of the specific product.

On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.

These are representative categories, with overlap between areas. The current Yiwugo directory can help narrow the search by category and booth. District 5, for example, includes several domestic sourcing categories as well as imported goods. Do not rule it out because an older summary calls it only an import market.

Once you find a candidate, save the district, gate, floor, street and booth number with the supplier’s name and product reference. “Yiwu market” alone is too broad for a meeting or follow-up. Check the location again before travelling; a category table is an orientation aid rather than an indoor navigation map.

Yiwu also has separate specialist markets, including Huangyuan clothing market and the International Production Materials Market. Confirm whether a seller is inside International Trade City, in another market or at a separate showroom.

3. Choose how to buy: in person, remotely or with sourcing support

You do not have to manage every task through the same route. You might shortlist online, visit to approve samples and ask a partner to coordinate receiving. The important decision is who handles each step after you select a product.

Three ways to organize a Yiwu order

RouteHow it worksArrange before ordering
Visit and buy directlyYou compare booths, discuss terms and examine samples, with translation support if needed.Who follows up, receives deliveries, checks bulk goods and coordinates export after you leave?
Contact suppliers remotelyYou use directories or product leads, request quotations and samples, and manage the agreement. Can the supplier support your communication, payment, delivery and document requirements?
Use sourcing supportA service provider handles agreed tasks such as finding suppliers, collecting quotations or coordinating orders.Which tasks and fees are included, which need separate approval, and what evidence will you receive?

Buying from Yiwu online

Use a listing to identify a possible product and seller, then obtain a current quotation. A translated product page does not establish available stock, an agreed specification or worldwide delivery. Send your reference, quantity, packaging requirements and destination so the seller can confirm a workable offer.

Keep three payment arrangements distinct: paying a supplier directly, ordering through an official platform trade service, and paying a purchasing partner under a service agreement. Yiwugo’s official trade-service description lists bank transfer and UnionPay channels, receiving checks and logistics cooperation. Confirm current eligibility, fees, beneficiary and service terms for your order. That description does not mean every booth accepts every overseas card or that an independent transfer receives platform protection.

4. Compare booth quotations using one product brief

Prepare one specification and send it to each shortlisted seller. Include material, size, function, color, packaging, quantity and intended use. Identify requirements that must stay fixed and options you are willing to change. This makes a supplier’s alternative easier to assess.

Give every product a buyer reference, such as YW-01. Link quotations, sample photographs and conversations to that reference. If the specification changes, add a new version and ask the affected suppliers to requote.

A practical booth quotation record

  • Source: seller’s legal name, contact and complete booth location.
  • Product: your reference, seller’s model, specification version and sample ID.
  • Unit: piece, pair, set, inner box or carton, with quantities inside each pack.
  • Price: currency, quantity tier, included packaging, delivery scope and validity date.
  • Availability: confirmed stock by variant, production time and agreed ready date.
  • Minimums: product, color, printing, label and retail-box requirements.
  • Handoff: payment terms, receiving location, checks and unresolved questions.

For example, one seller may quote a set containing two organizers and a retail box, while another quotes a single organizer in a plain bag. Comparing their headline prices creates a false winner. First align the contents, material, dimensions and packaging, then compare the same quantity and delivery scope.

Record missing charges as “awaiting confirmation.” A blank freight or packaging field is not a zero-cost promise. Also establish who signs the order, receives payment, manufactures the goods and provides export documents. These may be different entities, and the relationship should be clear. Our Chinese supplier verification guide explains the checks in more detail.

5. Confirm stock, MOQ, colors and packaging separately

Yiwu has no single minimum order quantity. The minimum depends on the seller’s offer, the exact product, available stock, variants and any requested changes. A carton is a packing unit; it does not automatically tell you the minimum purchase obligation.

Ask what “in stock” means for your order

Ask for quantities of the exact model and colors, where the goods are held, when they can be ready and whether stock will be reserved. A display sample or an online stock label does not prove that your full assortment is available. If the balance must be produced, confirm that lead time separately.

Separate the minimums

Confirm whether the MOQ applies per model, color, size or whole order. Then ask separately about logo printing, labels and custom boxes. Permission to mix colors must include the quantity of each color and whether the assortment is fixed or buyer-selected.

Illustrative example: carton size and color MOQ

You want three colors, 100 units each. The supplier requires 200 units per color and packs 100 units per carton. Your proposed 300-unit order does not satisfy the color minimum: the stated terms require 600 units. Ask about fewer colors, an approved stock assortment or revised quantities before committing.

For customization, obtain a separate description of the change, setup cost, sample approval, minimum and production schedule. Our MOQ negotiation guide covers options for adjusting an order. Do not accept unwanted variants simply to reach a minimum; they still tie up cash and storage.

6. Turn an approved sample into a checked shipment

Approve a reference you can trace

Identify the approved sample, specification version, color mix, accessories and packing. Note any limitations: a product sample may be approved while printed packaging is still awaiting review. Keep dated photographs and approval messages connected to the order. Our sample ordering guide explains how to prepare that reference.

If the original color, material or component becomes unavailable, require written approval before substitution. Update the affected specification and order records. A supplier’s description of an alternative as “similar” does not establish your acceptance.

Put the order and checks in writing

The purchase order should identify the parties, products, quantities by variant, agreed price, packing, payment schedule, delivery point and ready date. Agree the inspection scope, acceptance criteria and remedies for shortages, defects or delays. Verify an unexpected beneficiary change before making a payment.

Define what “inspection” covers. Counting cartons, checking visible labels, measuring products, testing function and commissioning laboratory work are different activities. State which checks apply, whether they are sampled or performed on every unit, and how exceptions will be reported. A warehouse arrival photograph alone does not answer those questions.

Make the report usable for a decision: it should identify the order, supplier, SKU, date, reference checked, inspection scope, affected quantities and findings. Agree who can authorize a remedy. If an issue affects only one line, record whether that line stays on hold while other goods proceed; do not let a general “ready to ship” message erase an unresolved exception.

Coordinate several suppliers before consolidating

Give each supplier a receiving reference and record its delivery deadline. If two orders arrive and a third is delayed, compare waiting with a partial shipment: timing, extra handling and freight can change. Obtain approval for the chosen plan and update the final packing list.

Our China order consolidation guide covers the warehouse and shipping handoff. Before release, confirm the forwarder, export-document provider and destination handoff. Declare relevant product characteristics and agree the documents required for the actual goods and route.

7. Compare the full cost and the value of a visit

A booth quotation is one part of your budget. Include samples, setup, sourcing support, China delivery, receiving, inspection, storage, repacking, export handling, international freight and destination charges where applicable. Check what each quotation includes to avoid both omissions and double counting.

Request packing quantities, carton dimensions and gross weight before treating a freight estimate as useful. If the packaging changes, update those figures. Our landed cost guide helps organize the complete calculation.

A visit can be valuable when handling samples or comparing several suppliers will resolve an important decision. Remote work may be enough for an established specification or a focused sample request. Compare travel, interpretation and time away from your business with the decisions you expect to complete. There is no universal order-value threshold that makes a trip worthwhile.

8. Prepare the essentials before visiting Yiwu

Choose a primary category, shortlist relevant suppliers and confirm their current locations. Save gate, floor and booth details with your appointments. Plan time for follow-up, sample collection and specification questions as well as initial discovery.

Check current opening notices and contact the booths you intend to visit, especially around Chinese New Year. Website customer-service hours and management-office hours do not establish when every booth trades. Confirm transport and entry arrangements using current official information relevant to your trip.

Carry your product brief, a way to label samples and a consistent quotation record. Before leaving each booth, identify the person who will confirm unanswered questions. A useful market day ends with comparable offers and clear next actions.

9. A supplier enquiry you can adapt

Replace the bracketed fields and send the same core request to shortlisted suppliers. Add product-specific requirements rather than asking only for the lowest price.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy from Yiwu without travelling to China?

Yes. You can contact suppliers remotely or arrange sourcing support. Obtain current quotations, approve specifications and samples, and establish who handles payment, receiving, product checks and export. A product listing is a starting point for these decisions.

What is the minimum order at Yiwu market?

There is no market-wide MOQ. Confirm the minimum for your exact product, each variant and any custom packaging. Ask how many pieces are inside a set, inner box or carton, and whether your proposed mix is accepted.

Are Yiwu suppliers factories or wholesalers?

A booth may represent a manufacturer, factory outlet, wholesaler or trading business. Verify the actual production capability if it matters to your order. Record the seller, manufacturer, payment beneficiary and export provider separately where their roles differ.

Is Yiwu cheaper than Alibaba or 1688?

It depends on the offer. Compare the same specification, quantity, packing and delivery scope, including service and shipping costs. A low booth or listing price does not establish a lower total cost. Avoid assuming a fixed percentage saving.

Can I combine orders from different booths?

You can arrange consolidation, subject to the receiving and shipping plan. Each supplier retains its own order terms and minimums. Track deliveries by SKU, resolve discrepancies and confirm the final packing list before combining goods for export.

How do I confirm Yiwu market opening hours?

Check the current market notice and ask your shortlisted suppliers when their booths will be open. Reconfirm holiday arrangements before booking. Customer-support hours displayed on a website are not a reliable substitute for booth opening information.

Do I need a sourcing agent to buy from Yiwu?

That depends on the tasks you can manage yourself. Buyers may seek support with supplier search, communication, samples, purchasing, inspection or logistics. Agree the scope and fees before authorizing work, and retain clear approval points for your order.
